I Samuel Decker of the county of Mercer and state of Kentucky do hereby state on oath that I am well acquainted with John Thompson whose name is submitted within and I knew him as a Regular soldier in the 12th Virginia Reg’t commanded by Col. James Wood during the revolutionary war which was the same Reg’t I served in & I know that he served out his first term of those years from the spring of 1777 until 1780 in the spring. I am well acquainted with his current status now and know him to be a very poor man. Given under my hand this 9 June 1819.
